BASF Moves Further into Biological Insect Control with AgBiTech Deal

BASF Agricultural Solutions has agreed to buy AgBiTech, a company known for biological insect control tools built on viral technology. The acquisition is expected to complete in the first half of 2026 after regulatory approvals.

AgBiTech was founded in 2000 and operates in the United States, Brazil and Australia, focusing on pest solutions for crops such as soybean, corn and cotton. Its products use naturally occurring viruses to help growers manage caterpillar pests.

BASF will take full ownership of AgBiTech’s assets, including its research and development sites, manufacturing facilities and intellectual property. Financial terms were not shared.

This move expands BASF’s biological crop protection range and supports its broader BioSolutions portfolio. The deal also highlights growing interest from major crop protection companies in biological pest management.

For crop science careers, the acquisition signals rising opportunities in biological product research, regulatory roles and field support. It shows employers are investing more in talent with biocontrol and integrated pest management skills.
