Clarke of Roselle, IL is seeking to hire a seasonal Mosquito Laboratory & Trapping Technician who will be responsible for traveling to mosquito traps in local communities to collect samples. Data from these collections will be used to predict mosquito activity and determine necessary treatments. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors and in a lab environment, is interested in public health, sustainability, and learning different aspects of mosquito operations. WORK SCHEDULE AND SALARY
- Starting at $16/hr
- Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm with flexibility as appropriate
- 2 days of lab work and 3 days collecting samples in the field
- Full-time seasonal position (generally May - End of September)
QUALIFICATIONS FOR LABORATORY & TRAPPING TECHNICIAN
- Background in Biology, Entomology, Environmental Science or related field preferred
- Recent graduate from an accredited University or College preferred, or experience equivalent to degree
- Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment
- This position may qualify for internship credit with the university's approval
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a valid Driver's License with an excellent driving record
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment
- Required to pass the Illinois Department of Agriculture General Standards Exam (training provided)
- Communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms
RESPONSIBILITIES OF LABORATORY & TRAPPING TECHNICIAN
- Monitor/collect surveillance traps in an assigned region
- Prepare adult mosquito collections for virus testing
- Sort and count mosquito samples
- Perform timely and accurate data entry
- Record all data as work is completed
- Ability to recognize and troubleshoot field-related challenges
- Surveillance equipment preparation, inventory, and organization
