Clarke of Alachua County Florida is seeking to hire a Seasonal Mosquito Field Intern to work part time from May – November, approximately 10 hours per week, performing important mosquito surveillance work in and around Alachua County. The technician will be responsible for visiting mosquito traps and water sites, checking to make sure traps are in good working order, collecting adult and larval samples, rough sorting out the non mosquitoes and identifying the adult mosquito samples to species as well as Clarke's sentinel chicken program. The chicken program will require a weekly visit to Clarke's host chicken coops where the technician will obtain a blood sample from the chicken following all procedures and safety precautions and sending sample to lab.
This position will require use of own vehicle with a mileage reimbursement of .70/mile and may require travel to/from Clarke's office in Kissimmee a few times per week or work out of a lab on campus at University of Florida.

WORK SCHEDULE AND SALARY
This position earns a competitive wage of $20/hr. and generally works approximately 10 hours/week (2-3 days) Monday- Friday, (day/hours will vary based on business needs). The Mosquito Field Intern is a seasonal position and supports the summertime mosquito control operations generally from May - November.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MOSQUITO FIELD INTERN
As a Mosquito Field Intern, you are responsible for driving to trap, inspection and/or chicken sites. Your role will provide critical data for important work in mosquito surveillance. You love your Mosquito Field Intern job as you get to be out of an office and enjoying nature. You take pride in your work knowing that your contributions are making a direct impact on the environment and public health.
When you are not servicing customer accounts, you are performing inspections and maintenance on your equipment, attending training, and helping in other aspects of your field. Your passion for public health, entomology, the outdoors, and nature shines through as you complete your work each day.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A MOSQUITO FIELD INTERN
- Possess a high school degree or equivalent with high school level math skills
- Communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms
- Have a valid Driver's License with an excellent driving record
- Be able to sit, drive a vehicle for extended periods of time
- Ability to bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Must be able to work through the end of our season (November/December)
- May be required to obtain state required pesticide licensing (training provided)
- Must be available to work daytime hours Monday- Friday, 2-3 days a week (days and hours will vary depending on business needs)
- Candidate must be comfortable with chicken husbandry, working with chickens, and humanely taking blood samples
- Capable of using a handheld technical devices including, but not limited to, smartphones, GPS, and system applications
- Candidate must also be comfortable performing assigned duties outdoors while walking through various and challenging terrain including, but not limited to water, heavy vegetation and uneven land throughout residential communities, urban environments and forested areas where environmental conditions are affected by weather.
