Working Supervisor (Grounds Maintenance)
Location: Salisbury
Hourly Rate: £13.80 to £14.35 depending on experience and qualifications
Contract type: Permanent, Full Time
Working hours: 37 hours, Monday – Friday, 7am to 3:15pm
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to oversee and work alongside a team of two to deliver high-quality grounds maintenance and cemetery services across sites in and around Salisbury. We are looking for an individual with strong all-round knowledge of grounds maintenance and grave digging, together with leadership qualities and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, organise and work alongside the grounds maintenance team, allocating daily tasks and monitoring quality, productivity and completion.
- Carry out standard grounds maintenance tasks including grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, leaf clearance and seasonal maintenance.
- Operate a mini digger and associated equipment safely and competently for grave excavation and other approved grounds works.
- Support burial and interment services with professionalism, dignity, discretion and respect for bereaved families and visitors.
- Maintain accurate daily records, including completed work, machinery checks, incidents, materials used and any site issues.
- Providing clear instructions, practical support and on-the-job guidance to team members, while monitoring attendance, conduct and performance.
- Liaise professionally with clients, site representatives, cemetery staff, funeral directors, members of the public and other stake holders.
- Follow risk assessments, safe systems of work and all relevant health and safety procedures.
Requirements
- Previous supervisory experience within the grounds maintenance/landscaping industry is required.
- Previous experience of excavation, with demonstrable mini-digger experience. Grave preparation, burials and interments experience is highly desirable.
- COTS (Cemetery Operatives Training Scheme) qualification is required.
- Full UK driving licence is essential.
- Strong communication, client management and IT literacy skills.
- IOSH and any additional health & safety certificates would be highly beneficial.
