Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and personable Technical Manager to lead the technical, compliance, and sustainability functions of our egg packing centre. While previous industry experience is not required, the successful candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to learn quickly.
This is a customer-facing role, requiring engagement with retail partners, hosting site visits, and providing accurate, professional updates. The role also demands a collaborative approach, as the individual will work closely with colleagues across operations, quality, and supply chain teams.
Key Responsibilities
Customer & Retail Partner Engagement
- Act as the main technical contact for retail customers.
- Attend customer meetings, provide updates on compliance, sustainability, and technical matters.
- Host customer site visits and support external audits.
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer queries or specification changes.
- Build strong, trustworthy relationships with retail partners.
Technical Management
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements (BRCGS, Red Tractor, RSPCA Assured, DEFRA).
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, traceability, and audit readiness.
- Support packaging/labelling updates, product changes, and technical trials.
- Use an analytical approach to investigate issues, identify trends, and implement improvements.
- Coordinate corrective actions for non-conformances efficiently.
Sustainability Leadership
- Lead the site’s sustainability initiatives in line with company and customer goals.
- Drive projects to reduce waste, energy use, water consumption, and carbon footprint.
- Collect, analyse, and report sustainability data internally and to retail partners.
- Promote environmental awareness and sustainability culture across the team.
Quality & Compliance
- Work with the Quality Manager to maintain strong HACCP, hygiene, and monitoring systems.
- Ensure supplier compliance and accurate specification management.
- Maintain precise technical records and documentation.
People & Teamwork
- Be personable and approachable, building strong relationships with colleagues and customers.
- Work collaboratively across technical, operations, quality, and supply chain teams.
- Foster a positive, motivated, and accountable team culture.
- Support and mentor team members to grow skills and confidence.
